Banner Sales: How do you approach them?

Hi there,

Since my AdSense income is still pretty low these days, although I got a pretty high amount of impressions, I'm thinking about banner sales for a fixed price per month.

So how do you people approach this? I mean are you contacted by businesses, who want to put their ads on your site or do you actively ask them, if they got interest in it?

What are standard prices for e.g. placing a leaderboard right on top of the main page? Can you please share some experience?

I think normally you like make an advertisement post, posting your hits etc, and where there banner would be located, and people approach you.

You could approach people that wants to buy banner space on different sites.

You can do one or the other, or do both...We've created a page here at AF that covers all of our information and rates. Most of the times, advertisers approach us, but sometimes in the past, we have posted our own ads in other webmaster forums letting people know that space is available here.

It's all up to you - You will obviously get more exposure and more purchases if you actively seek advertisers yourself, but you don't have to do this if you don't have the time or don't want to "intrude"

A good tip when identifying individuals who would be interested in what you are offering is to search google for terms relevant to your site and see what ads come up with the results. Then you have a list of people actively seeking ads in your niche. The chances are your prices will be cheaper than googles so contact those people and let them know what you've got to offer.

Try adbrite...you can get paid for impressions better than Adsense. It might not work for you but trying different networks can really pay off if you find the right combinations for your site.
