Affiliates question

Hi all, just a question here, that im wondering about.

Basically im setting up a website where i refer customers / members to other various sites to buy items. instead of just giving them a link to the site, Would there be any point in me becoming an affiliate of those websites?

Member A, wants some shoes. I find some the member likes, and send them to the site to purchase them. But doing this i get nothing in return. If i became an affiliate of the site i sent this customer to.I would, in return earn a little money for every purchase they make.

Worth doing, or would it be too much hasstle?

Thanks

Jake

Unless you plan on referring more people to that specific site, sounds like too much hassle; but in the end the person who has to make that decision is you.

it really depends on your traffic. like if a bunch of people will see this same thing then it may be worth your time. For example, if you found some nice shoes at store x and you use store x's affiliate code so that you get commission, anyone else that is searching for that same thing and runs across your site can click on that link and will get you commission as well.

Or sign up for a few of the larger companies like bestbuy and walmart and always do a check first to see if they offer the product. that way you sign up once and can use the code for anything.

Also remember that if you use an affiliate code to a store, if other people click on it, your affiliate cookie is stored on their computer for x number of days so you will make commission off of that too regardless of if they buy the item you recommend or not.

Thanks for the reply, hopefully we will be getting plenty of traffic once the site is up and running.

I might just do as you suggest and sign up to some of the larger stores.

I sent a client over to a very good ( well what i thought good ) website, suggesting a few items for her to buy, which she did. but iv recently complainded to them as the order got messed up somehow.I was thinking about becoming an affiliate of this site before the misshap, but now am unsure.

I just dont want to be an affiliate of any store that offers a bad service to their customers, as it could reflect back onto me.

So should i affiliate or not, what do you guys think?

If it's a well established retailer, it's possible to have an order error here and there, no order system is perfect and things happen. Perhaps your friend was unfortunately on the receiving end of this mishap. One bad incident shouldn't stop you from using their services.

If they are not well known and it's just a run-of-the-mill provider, perhaps look for another?
