I've got a Classifieds Section on my site, but I also have Forum "Vendors".

They're reputable companies that can buy a vendor package where they are in a "vendors" usergroup and have a specified forum for each company where they can post specials and things for our members.

Thanks for your help guys, it's appreciated

I am considering allowing traders to post one message advertising their goods and then make a small charge per post. Members could then reply to their post if they are interested in their products. I'm not sure how much interest there will be in that or if it will work but at the moment I can't foresee any problems.

No, but I did consider it for my weather board. As we can sell weather software, radar stuff, etc. I never got around to it though. I don't think there is much to sell in the political realm though.

I'm not too sure whether I want to go this route or not. On the plus side, I think it'd attract users and traffic, even if the users just hung around to post their advertisements or buy things from other users. In the future, this would also provide another way to make some income to pay the bills

On the downside, I'd have some reservations as to whether this actually "cheapens" the community feel or not. I'm not too sure how much something like this would detract from the actual discussion and content - doing this may put the emphasis on the community on commercial ventures instead of actual discussion. On the flip side though, perhaps the users it does attract wouldn't have come visit without the buy and sell section.

I have such a section, but it never occured to me to use a plugin .. God I have a lot to learn. I implemented Vb classifieds in a forum and I like it .. I'll try it on another forum too ...

Yes... I have a buy/sell/trade section at my Forum too.

And there are 8 sub-forums in it, ranging from skins and template sales to webhosting and domains. Done to keep everything clear and organised.
