Changing members' typing habits

A lot of members on my forum are younger, and they all type in netspeak, or whatever you want to call it. I think this is degrading our forums and may be unappealing to guests, because there seems to be so much of it on our forums. I was wondering how I can get them to stop typing like this?

Here's an example of the kind of post that I'm talking about: http://talkbudgies.com/showpost.php?p=43420&postcount=1

Well, put it in your rules that you must use proper spelling and grammar.

Exactly. And if anyone complains, link them to the rules. If they still don't like it, show them the door.

Yes, consider including some proper spelling/grammar guidlines in the Registration Agreement and/or the forum rules. This method has been tested and proven effective.

I changed the forum guidelines posted at registration so they show my forum rules and not the default ones that come with the software. While this is good for new members (they'll have no excuses), what should I do with existing members, as no mentions of this was ever mentioned in the rules.

Direct from my rules:
Quote:
▪ English Only! Any forigen-language posts or posts that don’t make sense will be removed. Also, do not post non-standard English abbreviations [we dnt tlk lke this] or deliberate improper grammar [wE d0nT t4LK L1k3 th15.]
.

It's rather effective. If anyone wants to put it into their rules feel free [but do not copy all of my rules.]
