Personally, it depends on the forum. If im talking on a business forum about business and how to run a business, i dont have a problem with a under 16 saying what they think, or been there, but when they start talking like they already run a business then my option of them changes. Some under 16's think they know how to run a business, but untill they try it (which legally they carnt do till they are 18) then how do they really know?

Most of the time yunger members dont bother me (im still young myself) its when you get the members that are young and think they can do what they want, becuase its the internet, they do annoy me

Personally, I don't think age matters. Anyone person of any age can be a chit disturber. The 45 year old that you are speaking about, I can bet is prolly not that age and may be lieing about her age. To react like that I'd say she's under 13. Also, let's not forget how easy it is to lie about your age on the internet. People do it all the time.
To answer your question Jack, I could care less what age you are as long as you don't cause problems. However, if the forum has an age limit, then anyone under that age should respect that and not join that partucular forum.

Im personally 20,and on my experience I see so far that younger members are a lot more fragile, they tend to post a lot more or not post at all,but some of them are really friendly and supporting. But generally as each individual is different from any other,so you cant just point at younger members.

I personally can't stand the younger members. They can be such a pain in the ... oh' wait, just kidding!

Actually, as others have mentioned, I have seen some very mature people post on forums that are in their mid-teens. I've also witnessed some immature people posting on forums that are in their 30's or 40's. As long as the person posting follows the rules and doesn't try to make life difficult for others, then I have no problem with them.

Well I am 24...and I do know some very intelligent teens who post at some of the forums I go to. Naturally, if you go to a site that is run by kids, and the member-base is much the same, immaturity will abound. People at these kinds of sites hate it when older and more mature members arrive and start discussing things they could never understand. Naturally, after a few incidents a good member such as this is driven away due to the foolishness of the site. I have seen this before I am tend to laugh off the idiocy.

Nonetheless, I have also spent my time at sites that were still run by people much younger then me, but they had a good Mod/admin team that knew what they were doing and kept the site in order. It all boils down to circumstance. If I see a member spamming a lot and saying stupid things, I can't deny that I would assume they are some young teen. That is not to suggest that older people of even my age-group can't be stupid and reckless. Far from it!

Anyhow, I know a few people who are several years younger then me, and are just plain smart. I have often felt embarrassed (to myself in my mind, of course.) when I have a good chat with these people and I truly realise how intelligent they are. Anything's possible. A quote I like to use, where a member's behaviour is concerned would be: "Age means nothing, unless you make it so". This means, if you are young and just carry on like a child with bad posts of immaturity, then I would always think of the person as a kid. But if such a person was quite the opposite, and had a good sense about them I would never even mention their age or compare them to someone much older. Simple as that.

Wonderful insight Arngrim and I've really got to say that I agree with everything you said.

A person is as old as they act. More young people act immature than their older counterparts, so that's why they receive the stigma...but of course this is not always the case. How you carry yourself is so important.

This isn't even just the case with how people are on forums, but also with life in general. I've never lowered myself whether typing on a forum or speaking to people face-to-face. Some people do, however. They type out posts with far less quality and detail than what they would do in normal life.

As some of you know, I'm 14.

People say I'm intelligent, but I'd say I'm pretty average. [well, as average as a kid who's hooked to the internet can be].

I only disclose my age on forums where I am comfortable in disclosing it, but I usually put 20 or so in my profile.

I try to use proper English - In fact, I have not been able to grasp 'text speak' very well. But it annoys me when I find 15, 20+ year olds being immature, and generally forgetting about vowels simply because they cannot spend the time typing properly [or cannot be bothered to learn to touch type].

If it wasn't for the immature and grammatically challenged people on the internet, I think that we, the younger users of the internet, would be more accepted.

Isn't that a given?

That's like saying "if it weren't for all of the criminals in this world, we wouldn't need police" ....duh

Fact of the matter is, a higher proportion of of the immature crowd are young as opposed to adults...it doesn't mean that all immature people on the internet are young, that's not true by a long shot...it just means that when you run into an immature person on the internet, odds are better that he/she is young than old.
