Persistent Spammer

Hey

I havent had many issues in the past but I have a certain person posting over and over their website. He probably has used 10 different accounts, I been banning his IP's and user names but this guy just wont give up.

Is there anything I can do other than just banning, hes promoting his forum which is hosted on a free forum service, should I get even or let it go. (I do have a spam bot)

I certainly wouldn't "get even". By doing that you're no better than he is. Just keep on banning him, eventually they will give up. Theres nothing more you can really do.

One thing I have done in the past is to look for similarities in how ppl are signing up. IE common traits to an email address or username. then I would put those common traits in my do not allow filters. Unless they are too broad. I have even went as far as causing a 404 error to come up when someone attempted to register with one of the common traits. That confused the hell out of them.

Don't ban him, tachygoestocoventry him in the User Banning options in vbulletin. He sees his posts but nobody else does and wonders why everyone is ignoring him...Fun.

Or there is that neato Miserable Users mod over at vbulletin.org. It makes all kinds of problems 'appear' for this particular user. He gets aggravated and eventually stops coming to your board because to him, your forums are terrible. Slow loading, errors, timeouts... hehe.

I find this far more entertaining than banning them.

Good ideas, this is probably what I would do. If he either thinks you've given up or gets annoyed with all the errors he'll probably go away.
