My board consists of friends and people from other boards visiting and having an interest in the board. Mainly moms with kids. But I do get a male member once in awhile which is welcomed. Because I haven't stated that they are not allowed and it is for everyone.

Well, I have the basic rules so far: no profanity, no offensive material/photos, photo size rules(since we do post alot of picts of kids.) and respect others that sort of thing.

What rules do you suggest? How much is too much for rules? I don't want to be a "dictator" but I also don't want drama or problems of that nature.

Anyway, just asking for suggestions.

My suggestion would be to look around at the rules of forums which are similar to yours. There are a bunch of general discussion forums out there and also quite a few parenting forums (which is somewhat related to yours).

Read through other rules and decide whether or not you think that are too strict or not strict enough, and then mold your own rules from this.

It's also important to realize that you can always change your rules as time goes on, whether that means adding, removing, or modifying something. If you have a particular problem in your forums that other forums do not have, then maybe you need to address this in your rules.

Keep it simple. There are some forums with pages of rules which will simply be ignored. I have a VERY simple rules set and it is pretty much perfect for my small community. Nobody breaks any of the rules because they know ALL of them.
