I don't usually delete them, if they have just posted loads of spam then I will delete them but only if over 90% of their posts were spam.

I used to delete.. I wish I had kept them. I banned a few members about a year ago and I'm always afraid they're using someone else's account to log in and lurk. I have the multiple login detector but it doesn't work if you delete accounts. So, now we don't.

I just caught this part of your post. This isn't true with vBulletin. Banned members can't be seen in the Members List and if you move/delete all their posts, nobody will see them either. The only way a banned member can be seen by any visitors/members is if they were the last member to register. Then they show up on the forum home page as the last registered member.

As for me, I don't delete any accounts. I've had one person ask to have their account deleted and I just banned it instead.

I don't ever delete accounts that i have banned, because they can just register again, and then i would have to go through banning username registrations.

Nah, I Delete the Spam Posts, Ban the user, the IP and the *@Emaildomain.com then delete the user. Although since bringing my email verification list in and using the Email Ban list from AdminFusion It seems to have filtered out most crap

Thanks god for that

Like most here, I just delete the inappropriate post and ban the user. I've never deleted a user, even if they requested it. It just isn't part of my policy and tends to really muck up threads. I too want to keep a record of who is who.

I do have a user group called "retired" that I will put accounts into. When someone asks to be removed, or if its a multi account (we run a game site and only one account is allowed, but often folks will change their user name to prevent retribution after they realized their style of play was too aggressive and causing retribution by other members .. lol). The retired user account is almost like a banned account, in that they do not have access to viewing the board, but it does not say "banned" under their name.

I also have a private board just for myself and my co-admin where we keep the deleted posts of rule violators along with all their vital info. Each member has their own "file" (thread) and it includes both active and banned members. It helps us to keep track of who is growing more troublesome and may need a serious warning .... also gives us the "evidence" we need when we do ban.

I do because I get tired of hearing "delete my account or I will sue you", even though they have no case it's not worth the stress.
