Yeah, I hate AOL, as well. I use MyBB and come across the same problems with the activation emails.

AOL sucks, period. I'm not a big fan of it and dish out "guilty by association" to those using it.

AOHell is spam...

I have a Php board and AOLers have trouble getting the activation link from us too. There's a reason why AOHell is in the crapper...

I have hated AOL since 1993!

When you install it, it takes over your browser (back then only IE) and inserts code into everything it seemed. Just recently a friend got a new lap top and wanted me to install AOhell 9.0 and couldn't believe me when I refused. He said he'd pay me (something wrong with the laptop, it was used) and I said his $10 a month for aol could be used for something decent like DSL or Cable.

I ended up doing it anyway, and was I right. It now comes bundled with 9 "aol" things like security, antispam crap that your computer should already have. *shudders*

AOL emails are a problem with any forum software. People need to realize it's not the forum softwares fault, it's AOL's high settings. It can be circumvented by them loosening up their spam settings or adding the boards email address to their allowed list.

But, yes... I am on the band wagon of AOL haters. I have a mathematical equation that proves AOL is evil...

First, we state that AOL uses too much time and costs too much money.

AOL = Time x Money

And we can state that Time is Money

Time = Money

Therefore:

AOL = Money x Money = (Money)2

And because "money is the root of all evil"

Money = Square root of Evil

Therefore:

AOL = (square root of evil)2

So we are forced to conclude that

AOL = Evil

I used to have an "Attention AOLers" sticky to help them thru it and even had an open forum where they could post for help signing up... still got emails telling me it wouldn't work... I gave up.

I may get killed but I love aol since abouts 1993. I only use aol. I have never had a problem with it on my site. Since I use aol I do not make excuses for aol but sometimes it can be a pain. Correct! Yet and but I am so used to it for years I cannot use another. I have a hack on my site that if any member tries to sign up again as another user using the same ip it sets off a detector. Now I have to make allowances for that as well, as many are posting and signing up and in from high school and college. It is a preference like many other things and why hate? You may be losing many future members that use aol. Like everything else there is a way of getting around it so use it to your benefit do not hate let the aol users participate. I love AOL lol!

Okay I'm having problems. I have banned AOL e-mail addresses from registering. I have posted a notice above the e-mail address field as well as in big letters at the top of the registration form. However, registrants are still sending me e-mails via the contact us form asking me why their e-mail addresses are being banned. The problem is, I can't respond to them because all e-mail sent from my site (automated or not) are bounced. What more can I do to get these people to understand that they can't use an AOL e-mail address to sign up?
