Title: Apprentice Join Date: Dec 2006 Posts: 470 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I got my first one about two weeks ago. Some ex-mod who got pissed off because we fired him for being a little too immature. Eventually he posted his "I'm leaving for good" thread. Now, my reaction to the thread was dependent upon many factors. If the member had been someone I felt was constructive in his posting and that the community would be diminished by the loss then I would have maybe tried to win him around and resolve the problem which caused the thread. As it was, the kid is a shit, so with his claim of "leaving for good" I decided to help him by changing the password and email on his account. Now he truly has left for good because he cannot log back in. I'll not stand for some punk undoing months of hard work to get a community off the ground because he's not happy with some insignificant event, feature or thread. If, however, it was someone who was leaving due to other commitments and they left wishing us the best of luck, etc etc etc, I would leave the thread open and say good bye and good luck to that member. It depends upon the reason for goodbye, I guess.

I'm talking this over with the staff, and we're considering the banning option for those who wish to leave for bad reasons.

I have it in the rules that good-bye threads are deleted. We understand they have a personal life aside the forums and we're glad to see them when they have the time. But starting such threads has only 1 result: thread deletion. Such threads cause a negative "feeling" on the community and they're to be avoided | ||||

It does nothing positive for your community, and all these people want is attention. I typically wouldn't ban the person right away, unless they have had problems in the past, but as soon as they cause trouble after the goodbye thread, I would ban them. You can't tolerate this kind of stuff because all it is is an attempt to bring down your forums or create controversy.

With regard to 'Members Rights', well, people have the 'right' to do a lot of things, but that doesn't necessarily make whatever it is they want to do 'right' and 'permissable'.
