I'm really ticked off

I have a member that took it opun herself to delete her own thread because she wasn't getting the responses she wanted. Yes, it's my own fault for not double checking that the option was disabled. I thought it was.

Basically she's being an irresponsible dog owner by dumping her previous dog for a new puppy and when I told her as much (although I was more polite) she deleted the thread. I don't feel she should be allowed to get off this easy. We don't condone dumping animals at CP and now the other members won't even know what happened. She took it off in the middle of the night so no one else would see it.

I also feel this is a slap in the face and a total lack of respect for me as the admin. If I wanted that thread gone I would have done it myself, she had no business deleting posts that I made!

Can you tell I'm beyond angry? Because I am. I seriousy want to ban her but I don't know if this is a big enough offence for that.

I'm sure she plans on going on like nothing happened while the rest of the board thinks she's this model dog owner. Meanwhile her poor husky is being bounced around because she wouldn't train him or exercise him and decided getting a Pom puppy would be easier.

ARGH!

What would you do? I can't get the thread back either, it's officially gone into cyberspace somewhere.

I'd send her a PM and confront her and hope she got smart back

Then I'd have reason to ban her.

That may be horrible advice though... I don't take kindly to ignorant people and love nothing other than for some smartass to give me a reason to ban them.

Plus I'm an animal lover too so I feel you there.

In the end, we are all responsible for our own troubles.

I guess this is an expensive lesson learned, but I am confident it won't happen again. :-/

I think I'd ban her, simply because I'm an animal lover. We have 2 dogs, both from the rescue shelter. Why anybody would want to dump them is beyond me. But as soon as you have an excuse to do so, I'd ban her.

I would contact her via e-mail and let her know that she is being put on a temporary ban. I'm not sure a full ban is appropriate because the feature was there for her to delete the thread. However, mention that she should not have been able to do that and getting out of the problem she caused doesn't sit well with you. Put her on a 3-5 day ban and hopefully that will at least let her know that her actions (deleting the entire thread) do have consequences.

Firstly, correct any settings that lead this to happen.

Then i would suggest confronting her through private messages.

Personally I wouldn't ban. The feature was there for her to use so she was not breaking any rules and was obviously trying to avoid personal embarassment. I think because of your error of leaving the delete function available you have to learn from it, let it go and move on.

If her dodging the issue still gets to you maybe start your own topic on the subject of dogs abandoned by irresponsible owners, without necessarily mentioning any names.

About the subject: I've got 3 dogs and hate the idea of people dissowning a dog because they become inconvenient. If you take a dog on you've got to be prepared for the good and the bad otherwise you don't deserve to own one.

CultZero is right, better option is to start a general thread like this. I also use to have a dog and I agree any person who is disowning a dog is not the kind of a person that i would want in a pet forum

I see two lessons here:

1. Make sure you have a handle on all forum/user permissions.
2. Do not waste a single minute on ignorant asses, she will not get it even if you explain it to her like she is 10. Life is too short to let these folks get under your skin.
