Well, where you put it depends on where you want it to go...but it would go in the newthread and newpost templates. If you have quick reply enabled, you'd probably want to put it there also, and that would be in the SHOWTHREAD or the showthread_quickreply template (again, depending on where you want it to go)

Yes, that's what I've been doing but I got mixed responses. And even if they say they'll be more careful from now on, you can be sure that in two weeks time, I'm sending PM about the same problem again.
Like I said, they're overzealous.

If that happens, then they'll need something that will really drill it into their heads that the behavior being exhibited needs to stop. A temporary ban works wonderfully as the kick in the butt that some members need.

I had a member who would do things similar to what your members do. I warned him, it didn't seem to leave a lasting impression. I suspended him, and since his return, he's not only stopped what he was doing, but he's been a lot better behaved ever since.

editing their posts for them won't teach them anything. Explain what they are doing wrong, how they can fix it, and what will happen if they keep doing what they're doing

I don't know much about editing templates, so I guess I'll have to ask the designer to do it for me.

Everytime I'd leave a "reason" for editing, but it's like they don't even care. Anyways, thanks for all your tips, guys.

Although the situation has since improved a lot, there is still one particular member who keeps posting meaningless comments, to a point where no one even bothers to reply anymore. I sent her a PM like the one you suggested, Ryan, but nothing has changed. I was wondering if you knew of a way to limit a member's post rate on all threads? If I could limit hers to 5 per thread, I think she'll put more thought into what she posts.

One thing I would recommend that is not posted here is allow your Italian poster to continue posting in Italian, but ask that s/he also add a translation. Nothing wrong with Italian traffic and I bet you could get some of it!

I'm not saying start a bilingual board but if this member is good maybe it's worth trying something unique.

Oh yeah, that's what I've been doing. I've only given her warnings when she and another Italian-speaking member are posting exclusively in Italian.

But the member i was referring to in my post above is someone else.

No, I don't know how to do that...My recommendation would be to give her a warning, a firm one this time. Tell her you'll be forced to temporarily ban her account if she doesn't change - and follow through with that. I know it's hard to ban members who you feel like could benefit your community, but fact of the matter is, if stuff like this is going on, it's only going to get worse if you let it.

I'll have to respectfully disagree with this one

I wouldn't ever allow anybody to post something in another language in my forums if I didn't know how to read that language - How do you know that what the member is saying is good? What if he/see is saying "screw this forum, let's all go to this other forum!!!" or "i hate this admin, what a douchebag...look at him, he doesn't have a clue about what's going on!"

Sure, you can plug all posts into one of those online translators, but do you seriously want to do that?
