hijacking posts

Join Date: Nov 2006 Posts: 182  | In one of the threads, the hijacking got so bad that I contacted all posters saying that I would have to delete their posts. One said "sure, it was stupid anyways" and the other said "if you do that, I'll stop posting on the forum!" Which is why I came here to ask your opinion. In another thread, I asked nicely that they stop hijacking it with off-off-topic posts, and the discussion went back to its original subject. I thought it was all good, but one posters got a bit offended and now is giving me attitude. So that's not working either.  | ||||

Join Date: Jul 2007 Posts: 61  | You don't have a general discussion area for these kinds of things? If you truly can't split them off, then that means they are probably spam. As the admin, you can delete any posts you deem inappropriate. If one of your members gets offended when you delete their spam, then you're better off without them. | ||||

It doesn't always have anything to do with advertisements! And Toucan just gave you an excellent example of off topic spam! LOL  | ||||

But what do you do when in the middle of a thread about the election, someone posts something like: "Oh, it reminds me of a dream I had about Johnny Depp!" And then someone else posts a photo of Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow. And then someone else posts about what a great couple he makes with Vanessa Paradis... And it goes on and on, and all that time I'm thinking "what does that has to do with politic???" | ||||

If your members are enjoying posting about it, then it can't be all that bad!  SPAM has many different meanings, and since Toucan posted a topic that had absolutely nothing to do with the current topic, it could be considered SPAM, especially if your forum has nothing to do with sports and/or there is no area for it. | ||||
