Users Awaiting Email Confirmation

How long do you keep "Users Awaiting Email Confirmation" waiting?

Do you delete their accounts and if yes, after how long time?

I don't require Email Authentication. I wouldn't delete them though if I did.

^^ Same as above...Don't require email verification, but if I did, I wouldn't delete unconfirmed addresses. What does it harm?

The only thing that I can think is that it occupies a username for an account that may be used...And there may be active users who would like that username. But, on that token, inactive accounts do the same thing, and I don't see the reason in purging them either. We probably have 3k-4k very inactive accounts here at AF, but it doesn't harm anything.

I use to do email confirmation, but too many members would never get it so I just approved them all and now more than half of them post regularly on the boards.

I have email comfirmation but I do not delete the unactivated accounts.

Every few weeks I send out a mass mail to all unactivated accounts saying that they are yet to activate.

I used to delete them for the simple fact that on one of the forums I ran ppl would forget they signed up and never activated and then would think their nick was taken so would create another.

I don't use E-mail confirmation, with NoSpam + CAPTCHA I've only ever had one spammer.

Some people are not familiar with forums and their registration process. For this case I found that this helps a lot.

I don't approve them because I want all members to have active email accounts to be able to stay connected whit the forum. This is one of the ways to keep their interest alive IMO.

Another thing is that I hate to see bdrtyjk@nuydzu#ad.com emails. Some people use them just because they think that are more smart then the other members.

Coming from someone who DOES use them... This is what I do.

Every once in a while I check them. I don't delete any members ever, but if their email is something like a @ a.com or something, I ban them. They know they're supposed to give a valid email address. If it's a real email, I put them in the members group and send them an email with their login info. If they can't get the email 'cause of a wrong address, I can't really do anything about it.
