User just viewing users online and nothin else?

Okay, I'm not sure where this belongs but I have a user on my community that has been viewing "who's online" all day long and hasn't done anything else. From the time I've been on and checked the users online - he's been on it... For what though? He's not checking anything else and barely posts. Should I be concerned?

Maybe he just was viewing who's online and then walked away so it seemed like he was there all day. I'm not exactly sure about this but since it auto refreshes it probably thought he was still there instead of ending his session.

In any case I wouldn't think its something to worry about.

You have a site who's subject matter deals with pets. I doubt any of your members will be coming under the scrutiny of homeland security any time soon.

But I understand where your are coming from. I was obsessively micro-managerial when I opened my first forum. Whenever I saw a .gov or .edu browsing my site -I was irrationally suspicious. I used to refuse approval of registrations when the users IP address didn't match the prospective members claimed location. Home country: UK. IP location: Saudi Arabia etc.

I have since learned to relax a bit and go with the flow. Unless you're running the -I love U*S*A*M*A Forum-. I doubt anyone is interested in your members list.

Ahh, I forgot about that. So, he probably just had the window opened and forgot to close it?

Yep, that would be my guess also...I used to do that all the time here at AF for "staff presence". I don't do it as much anymore...but anyways, that page auto-refreshes every 30 seconds or so. So, if somebody brings up that page and just leaves it there (whether inadvertently or not), it will continue to refresh until they close it. No harm in that.

In fact, the good news is that it makes your forums look more active with that one extra person logged in

I have a member that does it too and it drives me insane! She actually does it on purpose to be nosey. She is harmless though so I just try to ignore her as much as possible.

Yep, and I turned mine off for everyone but admins. They don't need to know who is sending a pm to who, who is replying or reading to what thread. Quit spying and post.

It could be that he is sending PMs to online members. He could be a spammer.
Make sure that he has not been sending a lot of PMs.
