I would suggest just deleting the first account and letting them carry on with their new account.

You have confirmed that they are the same person, or at least believe it to be so. Did you go with your gut? What happened?

This was at a forum where I'm a mod at so I didn't have 100% say over the issue. But for the original issue the duplicate account was banned and the original member was banned from posting in the "serious discussion" forum where she caused the most trouble. If I had to make the final decision I would have banned her permanently.

For the second issue I posted they were both banned, it was much more clear cut than the first.

I have to deal with this kind of stuff all the time. If they are adimate that it is 2 different people then have them hold up hand written signs and take a picture then post it.

I tend to have a lot of AOL users that also end up with the same IP addresses for serveral accounts as most of my users are from the same area (miami florida). So for me it is very hard to truley know if it's the same person or not. I don't ban second accounts unless they are just being dumb on the forum.

I say unless he's being a retard or acting a fool what harm is it if it really is him, because if it's not then you look like you are a dictator and an ass all at the same time.

I have a rule that there is only 1 account per person. I have a few husband/wifes teams, so can't have 1 per computer or anything.

However i have had this situation, and basically waited until i could catch them out, then merged them into 1 account, and asked them to explain to everyone why they pretended to be 1 person LOL
