Word Censoring?

Hey when you start a new forum do you censor some words before you let user register or do you only censor words after they are used in the forum?

If I'm going to censor words, I'll probably do it from the start...But censoring depends on what kind of forum I'm running and who my target memberbase is.

It depends on the nature of the forum really...Nothing is censored here at AF, and that's because we don't really have a need for it. The nature of this forum just doesn't call for people to start screaming and yelling...Typically, when somebody is getting to that point, we'll stop them before they actually start swearing. No censors at AF in 2 years, and we've never had a problem with it.

Now, if you have more "free-form" forums like general discussion, sports, gaming, etc., then censors are probably necessary because people are going to be a little more liberal with what they're saying.

I don't have a censor no. I did have one for about a month when the clan was going through a somewhat troubled time and swearing was in abundance, when it cleared down again I removed it.

I only censor the "F Word" but have it set up to change the 'u' to an 'e'. I never used to but some people were getting fed up of its use.

There were a couple members that really over used it. Now and then is fine but not all the time.

The "C" word referring to the female body part is the other word censored and automatically changes to "meow".

Other than that, it is a free for all. But I don't find cursing much of a problem anyway. I still use certain swear words when I post and like I said it was just those 2 words above that members did not like seeing.

I forgot it was there tbh
I'd rather not and just edit it myself,it depends on the context e.g if it says why dont you go f*** yourself you smelly c*** then yeh i will but if its like for f*** sake! then i wont and depends what part of my board its in as i have a board for the body so c*** could be used in a non-swearing manner if you get me?

I understand.

I thought my forum would be people my age or younger but surprisingly I have a lot of older people and a lot of them female and I dunno, but I know I can't please everyone all the time and overall I would say I have more females than males (which surprises me) and they don't like that 'c' word, not that it was ever used that much.

It is just hard to find a balance, so to speak.

If I use a censor I make it where it would take a word like the "f" word and make the "u" into an "a". Same thing with other words.
