| Apprentice | Should we always ban? Do you think banning members is always the best way to go about things? Or do you think there are alternatives to banning a member? |

| Forum Junkie ![]() | If you use vBulletin, "Tachy Goes To Coventry" is pretty dandy. Also, just sending the user a private message explaining things can also help, in some cases it'll just provoke the user further than the admin actually had the cheek to send them a private message.

| Apprentice | So you would always ban in all circumstances. Would you ban according to your rules all the time? |

| Forum Junkie ![]() | No, I usually infract the users post, and send a private message, I will only ban for severe things. (Such as racism) (Infraction = vBulletins "warn" type system)

| The Webmaster ![]() | I try to avoid bans if I can, because I'd rather reform the member and hope they can become a contributing member. However this is not always possible so do not be afraid to ban members if you can tell they will never change.

| Veteran | Private messages usually work well... Going around banning everyone kinda sucks.

| Apprentice | Sometimes, as a result of banning, administrators and communities can get very bad reputation. So I guess it would be better to take a step-by-step approach and maybe first private message them, then warn them and go on from there. |

| Apprentice ![]() | Banning spam bots and spammers, sure. But banning a lot will only make you and your forum look too strict and annoying in my opinion. I usually let members get away with things as long as no one is bothered by it.

![]() | What would you do if you had a "gang" on your site? We had one and they just went around bullying members to the point where those bullied members just left and we were stuck with these idiots. I wanted all them banned, but was over ruled by most of the mods. Then those same mods told them I wanted them banned and I was attacked over and over again without getting any help from the mods. Finally the owner made them all miserable users and they finally went away. Since then those bullied posters came back. So yes there are times when a group of posters need to be banned. |
