The page load for them would take ages if animated avs were strewn across the board. I'm sure you might think that those users could just turn off avatars and/or signatures, but like Ryan said, that subtracts from the personality of the post.

I think it's a kind of expanded avatar, something that shows what the member likes, etc. And then I always link my sig pics to my forum, even if the pic isn't promoting my forum ![]() I don't mind animated avatars either, I allow them as long as they don't go above 40kb.

| One problem I have with signatures that have images in them (specifically banner size images) is that to me all the person is doing is getting away from having to pay for advertising space and then just posting all the time so their banner gets seen. On my site, if you want your banner to appear, there is advertising spots for that.
