Light, inconspicuous spamming

How do you handle the people who don't necessarily spam...but dont exactly have anything to say when they post either? I'm talking about the people who will post one-liners 90% of the time, but it's still not really "spam"

It can be tough because it's not like they have bad intentions or that they are breaking any of the rules, but at the same time, they aren't really contributing to the forums. My basic feeling is to contact them privately and informally...just tell them what you have noticed and ask them if they could put a little bit more into their posts from now on.

I'd like to know what others have done in this situation, I know we have all faced it

I would probably do the same thing you would do, contact the person and just tell them that they need to add a little bit more content to their posts instead of how they are currently posting. One-liners are fine every once in a while, but when all the user's posts are only one line then there's a problem.

Ya know, I see it from time to time on our forums - what gets me is the people who respond with one liners and they have nothing better to do/say than to just be total jerks!

So, I have no problem with one line responses...unless it's the one line nasty comments - which I notice coming from the same members...

That can happen from time to time. I have noticed it alot with people who use PF. They want to get above negative or want to get help on there forums. I have done it a couple times myself. I try my best not to. Most of the time my one liners are when I welcome someone.

I think just contacting them first would be a good idea.

If they are not there because of a post exchange, then I really don't say much. If all they do is post one liners then it'll be quick for everyone to determine that they won't be counted on as helpful to others. They are helpful to the community though so I don't intend to say anything to them. Of course I would much rather have someone that's going to post in more detail but sometimes I just can't be too picky.

I have a problem with considering one-liners spam. Be it my experience with a leasure board, but one-liners are posts, and that means activity. Also, some people are natural one line spitters. If that is their character, what can you do?

Granted, if you have a help community, like AdminFusion, you want "meaty" posts to have good content. And you want good content to attract guests to register and grow. However, you must also look at the community. People have the need to share their thoughts and feelings, and usually there is no need to extrapilate from a simple one line that elloquently delivers one's thoughts and sentiments.

I am a one liner person. You can see it in my poetry, I like short stanzas and short poems. Since I am on staff here at AF, I struggle to keep one liners to myself. I'd rather not post, than spit a quick witted one liner that would make everyone laugh or feel good inside. What would people say! hehe. But I do read your posts, guys and gals!

On my forum about LOST, it is a very casual and leasure board. We have plenty of one liners to high heaven, and that's how I like it! Everyone feels like we are a family, and not resources to be exploited. But I do hate having 70% of my active members posting 90% half-liners, and multi-posting when replying to multiple posts in the same thread. That's just wrong!
