Banned a member and now he's threatening.

Hello everyone,
I banned a member on one of my communities and apparently he think he's the main activity starter on the community and he stated that he'll be telling people not to visit and such. Is that possible? Will be even listen to him?

But yea, he was gone for awhile because I banned him for cursing, and he thought he could come back, so I pulled an all nighter, and woke up to a bunch of posts by him, and he messaged me on MSN saying "I'm telling people not to come to your website", and I could careless really because the community was fine without him for a month.

Should I even worry?

This is the thread that I've created to tell the users about it.

can he do it ? yes he can.. there is no way for you to stop him from saying your site sucks.. and not to come to it... and If I am right he has a site like yours... in that case he knows the ppl to talk to to make your site go down if he really wanted too.

I think you should worry about it but not take it too serious, if you don't respond to his threads and etc he will prob get bored and stop doing what he is doing

Your first mistake was making a thread in your forums about it...there's really no need to do that.

If he wants to talk trash elsewhere, let him, there's absolutely nothing you can do about it. If he's doing it on MSN, you're even more powerless. Now...if you see him doing this in other forums elsewhere and feel like he is lying or stretching the story somehow, go in and correct him (DO NOT LIE ABOUT ANYTHING!). The most important thing to remember is remain nice, no matter what - maintain your posture and make him the angry/upset one. You want to make him look like the bad guy and you the good guy...if you can do this, most people won't listen to him. Don't talk to him on MSN, just ignore him...act like it's no big deal. If you continue to do this, act nice and like it's no big deal, he will go away with time.

All forums will have these members over time, no matter who you are and how nice you are...some idiot is going to come in, do something stupid, you're going to enforce your rules, he/she is going to get pissed off and go trash your name. Inevitable. The important part is not to try to prevent this but instead know how to react to it.

I agree with Ryan, I don't think you should have made a public post about this on your forum.

definitly worry but dont freak out. keep an eye on his IPs and make sure you remove his access to spam your site. i dont agree with you making a thread about it all your doing is creating an interest by others. keep it away from your site and ignore him until you cant. i agree with ryan be nice and keep your cool. these things happen to everyone so dont think your the only one. it will end soon and it shouldnt hurt your site that much. hes a kid and kids get upset for silly things.

I would also URL ban his domain name. That way when all those other people are posting about leaving themselves, their signature links won't help others to follow them. Of course not posting about it would be my first action (as others have mentioned) but since you have - and since it appears he's going to continue to make a stink about this - I would block his URL.

I have not run into this problem before, but I would not start a thread about it. It just makes for sour grapes. This can backfire, all of a sudden you can have members battling other members and they are going to wonder who is next. I would just ban him and his url like Mark said and move on. After reading some of the thread this is going to get out of hand and it will come back to bite you.

People are going to say what they want and that is their right, as long as you control it and it doesn't happen while they are using you board.

Wow you people know how to handle things.

um, if someone was going to do this to me? i would IP ban him, delete any posts on my forum that make it look bad, block him on msn or even block any way to contact him and just try not think about it really.
he may get the word around, but will people care of what this idiot has got to say do you think?

nothing more i can say really, everyone above pretty much covered it.

Ya, I guess it was a mistake to make a thread about it, but now I know what to do next time this happens.

I'm not going to URL ban his domain name, but I will edit all signatures that lead to his website, and make them go to mine.

I have had this problem once,

This happened on an old board of mine, what I did, as a newbie admin was lower his post count, he wasnt verry happy about that and decided to create some more havoc. I removed his posting rights for one month and when he came back he was relatively quiet. what happened next is this he PMmed the active members and told them to visit his site. However, my loyal members quickly forwarded the PM's and I found out where his site was. I looked at it and came to the following conclusion: "Omg that *** copied my site" Unfortunatly he did hotlink some of the images and this is what happened :>

http://img24.imageshack.us/my.php?im...hotlinking.gif

is this too far off-topic? :/
