Those Goodbye Threads...

They are my biggest pet peeve. I personally can not stand them, as there only purpose is too cause some last ounce of chaos from an unhappy member. Am I crazy or do others despise this as well?

Oh yeah those are pretty annoying. And pretty silly too, why ask for affirmation in a community that clearly doesn't share your particular POV? And you're not alone, almost every big board I visit squash them as soon as they raise their ugly heads since they are clearly just a troll hook.

I have a few members who did them and they all are still there...

Now if someone does it I delete their screen name.

As an admin, I hate them as they inspire too much drama. As a member I see their value, in that its easier than issuing seperate explainaitions to your 30 forum friends.

I never leave a goodby message if I'm leaving a forum for good for the same reason, I think it inspire too much drama and false sentiments between the members, and, as you say, the poster always seems to come back.

But I will leave little gone note to tell everyone when I'll be away for a little while, and I'll usually tell them when I'll be able to come back online.
Though generally I only tell that to the staff I'm working with or the admins, is that the same thing?

I hate them too. I delete and move on. Drama queens don't belong to my community. Not to mention those who post the GB threads DO come back

I don't like Goodbye threads either. Like others have said, I think that they lead to too much drama and, inveitably, the people that have posted the thread always seem to wond up coming back. I've had a member like that on my forum recently who posted a whole letter on he was leaving and why he was leaving and wound up coming back 2 days later.

I never post goodbye threads. If I'm leaving somewhere, for whatever reason, I'll just leave and not go back.

I post now in more than 80 forums. I mean I have accounts and post from time to time. I had months of not coming to a forum and then posted 100 messages in 2 days. But I never "leave" with making announcements. If I don't like it there I never show up again and that's all.

BUt we're dealing in the GB threads case with the so called "attention whores". PEople that need attention and draw it to them by any means

I have found that many of the people who end up having issues with other members and who then embark on their 'I am leaving' threads - eventually come back... but without the announcement this time!!!
