When you have personal irritations..

Do you "spill it" anywhere or do you hold it in?

Sometimes some of my members make me want to pull my hair out. I'm not alone. Generally, at the same time, each member of the staff goes 'OMG!' and we discuss the issue in the staff forum.

Though, lately I'm starting to feel a little guilty about our discussion. It's not really gossip but we ARE talking about them. If our admin forum ever became visible, there would be World War III. And probably IV, because some women have that delayed reaction thing.

Anyway, I'm trying to make some suggestions at my site and I seem to have one member that is so against any change or addition. She is always one to post a comment that doesn't seem negative if you don't know her. If you do, you know full well that it's a well placed jab. I'm getting sick of it but I'm trying to not post in the admin forum about my irritation.

If there is one member that makes this job thankless, it's that one.

*grrrrrrrrr*

Its hard to keep everyone happy, and usually it is a guarantee that there will always be one who will never be happy no matter whats said/done.

As for behind the scenes discussions in the 'staffroom', well sometimes that is an inevitable part of being staff/admin. Not always a pleasant thing to have to do, especially if its about an individual member who constantly sails too close to the edge, but without that discussion, there is no way of getting a fix to a problem that is agreed by all staff. Its a catch 22 situation.

I'm in the same situation with one of my users. Most of the board cannot stand this person but they never go far enough to get booted.

Basically I hit them head on with PM's and stuff and they back off for about 3 months, and then its back on.

One method I found satisfying was to register a dummy user and then lay it out how you feel. It seems as the admin you are always holding back to avoid setting the wrong policy. The Dummy user can be a nice outlet and redirect somebody's attention. It can also be entertaining.

My staff and I discuss the situation and the person/people in the staff lounge. I don't look at it as gossip, I look at it as saving my sanity. We are able to bounce our frustration off one another and vent/let off steam there, so that it doesn't spill over onto the forum, and I don't blow my stack at this irritating person.

I've got loads of these members, just complaining about whatever I do. If I should have listen to them my board would have no ads, plain black and 1600x1200 sized sigs with competive forum advertisments

Sometimes a few members can get me VERY annoyed. But I have learnt that I simpy have to hold back - it doesn't look good to any guests, or members in fact, if they see an admin losing it with a member.

It's just a good job my members can't hear what I'm saying as I'm typing

The staff room is supposed to be private and you should trust your staff; if you have irritations point them out there. Generally if you are angry enough to notice someone chances are other people have too. It's not really a bad thing to discuss members.

Wow thats the reason I left the first board I ever created because there was just too much drama in the Staff forum. I felt like the board just lost its place. I have a staff forum and I only let people I totaly trust in it. I try not to start talking gossip because if I do then the others will lol.
