Do you test forum mods before installing them? I think this is very important, almost crucial, for any community. I always maintain an exact copy of my forums in a password protected directory...this gives me a place to play around with settings and break stuff This also means that I can make updates much quicker on the actual forums, as most of the time it is just a matter of copying over files - since I already have the ready.

Does anybody do tests on their local machine? I've thought about doing this recently...I imagine it is much quicker to do as you dont have to bother with FTP, bandwidth, etc - are there any disadvantages?

i use to have a test board but then i noticed i never really used it so i deleted it

but i think its a great idea just incase you scerw something up

I ALWAYS do, not because i don't think thay will work but my forusm is IntergraMOD (pre modded phpbb) and some codes have been changed so some mods don't work with it, and it is better to test on my test forum that way if i don;t like it i don't have to unstall it

Always test mods as quite a few have bugs which can bring a site down. I use a local test board and always have it skinned/modded up to reflect the live board.

I cannot stress this enough, fully test modifications before putting into a production environment! And to stress a bit more, test in a number of browsers as what may work in IE may not work in FF, Opera, safari etc....

I have a test board on my home computer and I mess around with that. The board that I have online now was created in my room, with me doing all the skin mods and what not then uploading it

I have a test board running on a development server in my room, i usually access it from uni and play about with most mods if considering installing them.

I dont have a test forum and i also use IntegraMOD just like angisson but i just back up my files and hope for the best

I have years in professional QA testing experience so I test everything twice and test it again just to be sure... its a neurosis.
