Hmmm... A little suspicious?

WTF?

This is not photoshopped. On the 15th, 100 something people regsitered, all with similar regular type names. ie 'first_last1234'

Nobody noticed, until someone said 'Wait, where't we at 220, not 320?

I'm a little concerned, none of these accounts have posted, and I don't know what they are, or where they came from. I've never seen something like this

Does IPB not have a CAPTCHA or strong Image Verification process? If so and it's not enabled, I'd enable it or make that a priority feature request. These days, so many spammers are finding so many ways to mass register.

I'm in IF, and I've disabled a few of those options due to glitches and people not being able to register.

I havn't got a single post, spam or otherwise from these accounts, so I'm not to worried about it at this time. My staff and I will definitly be on our toes for the next while though

What are their email accounts? should be able to tell where they are from. I would highly recommend image verifcation or number verification.

All of them resistered with ____@itpromote.info . And tragicly, IF does not have an image verification option by default There is a script I can install, I've seen it before. It's just a matter of tracking it down, and installing it then.

The email verification through the IF system is a nightmare at best. Emails are always in the junk, if they ever make it. And sometimes the verification link won't even do anything. Rather then deal with that much hassel, I just turned that off

I got one of those registering... some one with an itpromote.info email address. I have a image validating turned on.. so only got one... when they posted it was a really crap post comment, not in touch with what the topic to which they were replying was about.. then spammed advert links in their sig....

if you get itpromote members delete them.

cc.

WOW. You're going to have to do some IP banning. However, don't delete the accounts. Sometimes members look at forums based on how many members they have.

IP banning may or may not work as most spam-bots work through proxies. If you ban too much of the IP range, you'll be banning potential members as well.
