Another Site's Stats?

Today I logged into my Google Analytics account for the first time in quite a while, and I noticed I had a site that I sold a while ago still on there. (For those who dont use GA, you have to put a code on the webpage). The code must still be there because GA is still tracking it.

Now my question is, is it illegal for me to view his site's stats? i mean it should be private right?

Did you tell the new owner it was tracked by Google?

This is why i always put
<!------Google Analytics Start-------->
<!------Google Analytics End -------->

So both i, and any future owner will know its there. Plus i do try to remember to let them know.

Hmm. So if they have edited anything they would have seen.
I'm not too sure about the legality of it though. I spose it could be seen as illegal.

I don't see this as a legal issue, or an issue that could result in legal action being taken against you.

Simply contact the new owner and let them know that they need to remove the GA coding from the website. If they refuse to remove the code, simply do not remove the code or do not respond, then you've attempted to make contact with them regarding the monitoring.

As above, I do not foresee this as a legal issue otherwise statistics programs would be liable and could be challenged for being able to view their members statistics (i.e. mass visitor counters and other such websites).

I would just let them know that you forgot to either remove the code or tell them about it and they should take it out or put in their own analytics code.

I agree. It doesn't matter if it legal or not. It’s a matter of principal. I would let them know.

...You could also just delete the stats from your Analytics account...then even if he leaves the code in there, you won't be able to access the stats.
