I'd like to make a trap or something, like when someone access a certain file or script they get this message that a raiding party of FBI agents have tracked your residence and are on their way to arreast you. I would love that... would love to see that so much.

I've been hacked before several times by different people.

There are websites where "hackers" congregate that have league tables for the highest number of defaced websites. A lot of them simply search google for various forum versions, run standard publicly available exploit scripts, notch it up as another point and move to the next in the google list.

Yes, its annoying But my question is this : why do people do this? What do they 'get' from it - or is it just the satisfaction of screwing with people's enjoyment?

I don't get it
First off, I hope you have fixed the problem. To answer your question, there are a lot of reasons:

1. The hacker could of been jealous or had a forum similar to yours and wanted to eliminate the competition.

2. You or a staff could of upset the hacker and made him do what he did. However, that doesn't give him any right to do what he did.

3. The hacker could of been a low life and bored. He wanted to test his tools and maybe your forum seemed easy to him. Your forum probably had a security fault and his hacking abilities allowed him to hack it.

Those are the only 3 that I can think of that would really be the motivation that the hacker used. To decrease hackings, simply equipt your forum with better security. Your hosting should also provide an Anti-DDoS addition with anti-virus and what not.
