Asking permission for photos

What's the proper protocal for this? Let's say you want to review a product that you really like on your website, and of course you want to put a picture along with your review. Is in bad taste to just take the picture from the company's website? Or should you ask first?

I can't imagine that anyone would complain if their product is getting a glowing review by someone, but I'm still not sure it's proper to ask first. I know you always ask if you're using the photo for any other purpose though.

I think it would all depend on the company. Some may care and some may not.
