Which anti-spam hacks do you use?

I'm trying to collect add-ons, hacks and other tips to limit access of my forum to spammers. But it seems that everything I've found comes with a downside:
  • Ban domain names: I have added over 260 domain names in the banning option, but every day, new spammers are created. It's a never-ending list...
  • CAPTCHA: The image verification only works for bots.
  • Word censorship: Once spammers pass moderation with a "clean" post, they can go back and edit it with spam.
What are you guys using on your forum?

Well if you are using vBulletin I suggest NoSpam! It is a great mod and almost all vBulletin forums should use it.

Oh I know there is a mod about not being able to post links until you hit a certain post level, maybe that will help?

I use NoSpam and I haven't hardly any spam at all, including live persons spamming my forums. I think I have only had, maybe 3 of them since installing it.

I have captcha but does not stop them all. I also banned the .ru and .ukr as so many seem to come from those domains.

I just wish there was a sure fire way to keep them away.....

That sounds like a good one. I don't think I've ever heard of it...
Unfortunately on my forum, we often share URLs. So it would actually turn off more users than spammers. But thanks for the tip!

If your using SMF, you can add to the already great anti spam setting with these = http://custom.simplemachines.org/mod...?action=search

I'm using the default setting in conjunction with 'Spam me not' - link. Since we switched from invisionfree to SMF, we have had zero spam bots compared to our 4-6 a day problems we had before.

thats good and i have installed, but it works off cookies, so to catch a multiple account they would have to be in the same pc

i look at this as dup count enforcement more than anit-spam

i use nospam! but i can understand how thats not too effective on a human spammer.
