Unfortunately this is a problem more than it should be these days...People can get very sensitive with their forums and work, and rightfully so...but sometimes people just take it way too far. Has anybody ever threatened to sue you or take legal actions of any sort? I realize this is a sensitive issue and many of you would rather not discuss your own personal experiences here, but we can be vague in doing so

In my experiences, I have been threatened before, but in all honesty, I think that the people who make these threats don't understand the legalities behind things...they don't realize that the process of actually following through with it is expensive (more expensive than the payment) and often-times, the law could care less about these issues, most of which are petty.

I'm just curious to hear what people have seen and heard...I've seen people get up in arms over something that is so small ( < $100)...and they act as if some court is going to do something for them? hmph

I've never been threatened myself but I know some people that have. The funny thing is the person making the threat will go so far as saying their lawyer will be e-mailing the person about the pending lawsuit yet no good lawyer would ever use e-mail to start off a lawsuit. As you said, most won't go anywhere and the ones that are serious will send you a certified letter via postal mail that you have to sign to accept. You definitely won't get contacted by a lawyer via e-mail, a forum or anything similar.

I've been threatened by eBay for $300,000....I'm pretty sure they weren't playing around.

What were the circumstances..if you dont mind telling us, that is, I imagine that information is extremely sensitive to you.

Mark, yeah, you're right about the court/contact thing...which isnt even something I've thought about when talking about these online threats.

Illegal use of the eBay servicemark.

I have not ben sued or has someone tryed to sue me...but i do know this one owner that was told if thay don't close down there will be "action" she didn't stick around to see what action that was...i don't think it was a big deal for her b/c she was looking for a new domain anywayz...

so it was not a big problem at all
