Wrong means wrong, its rather simple really, it doesn't mean its illegal,

" You stole my crisps " that's wrong, but not illegal, yes i know it doesn't relate but i felt like saying it, problem? tuff..

Youtube has an embed code, if they allow for consent then its fine, if you refer to my previous post, i clearly stated this.

And yet again Imageshack allows for you to use there link on your site, this is also fine.

The thing i have a problem is if i was to upload a picture to my site, you just steal the link, and post the image on your own site.

I should have just left this thread after the first post as I was going to. I shouldn't let myself get sucked into an argument over nonsense with a person already convinced of something. I should know better.

I apolgize...time for me to move on.

I get a LOT of traffic from Google Image Search and it does pay.
The only way you benefit from google image search is when somebody clicks the result and then clicks the image. If they just click the result and view the image on the page that is loaded (which is not your site, it is the leechers), then you are using bandwidth and getting nothing in return. That's what happens with most image searches.

I get a lot of traffic from google image search, and it definitely does pay, but I'm getting traffic that goes directly to my site, not to somebody else's

Right, back to what you mentioned earlier (I didn't comment on it before):

This is basically hotlinking protection

You are telling the other website owner to stop using your .swf and replacing it with an ad banner. Many people who enable hotlinking protection do just this with a banner. They set it up so that any time another website hotlinks an image, it will display an ad banner instead, or an image that says something like "HEY YOU! STOP STEALING MY IMAGES!!"

There may be some advantages, sure, but it's just my opinion (and the opinion of everybody in this thread but you), that hotlinking is generally not advantageous.

Many forum owners only have 5-10gb of bandwidth available to them every month...100mb/day equates to 3gb/month, and that is actually pretty substantial to a lot of people. It might not be to you, but it is to many people.

That may even be a conservative estimate. Take the thread starter's situation for example...This other site was leeching his .swf, which was loaded on every page of the website (for guests, I presume)...Say the swf is 200kb and is loaded just 1000 times per day (quite low for a medium traffic site). That's 200mb/day and 6gb/month just from one .swf and one website. This is the kind of banwidth that many forum owners can't afford to throw away.

I'm not sure what is best to do in this situation, because I'm just not sure how this hurts you and if it even does. Anything that he does with his website will generate more traffic to yours.

If you did want to shut him down, you could refer to Joy's thread in the Supporters forum, because this is a similar situation.
Thank you Ryan, I'll check it out

The only thing this guys doing is stealing my bandwidth, and making it look like it's his site.

loco - absosmurfly you can run the same js inside a wordpress template - its just javascript run when the page loads.

bandwidth theft is theft - plain and simple - someone can consider there to be benefits if they like, but in my experience most often it is just stealing of your images without the context of the page and/or without credit for the image.

often i like to replace the image with something rude and then just change the image url on my own site.

I had a similar situation where some punk stole my online identity. He used the same username as I and used a hosted signature that featured the name 'AzH'. I switched it out for goatse. He learned his lesson fast.

Thanks, the java worked

It's one thing to post images around the web as long as I'm hosting them.. This is a great way to get seo image search traffic. If someone else is posting images without my permission, it's stealing.

==Please Note I've only Read the First Post in This Topic==

It happened to me once. I use AbyssWS to run my webserver. And since my ISP doesn't really give a you-know-what about bandwidth, I honestly don't have to pay for it. Only the electricity bill that comes from my server (which runs off a laptop.) So it's pretty handy. And my website usually loads in < 1 second. People have been leeching off mym site for months. It's not really anything to worry about for me, but I'm sure it is to you. If you want, I could probably hook you up with me, but that's all I can offer.
