I hope you learned from it and such a thing never happens again. I wish you the best of luck with getting it back up.

Steps have been taken so that if either of our accounts get hacked the hackee will not find the admincp, so we should have a few less problems now. Only down side was no backup for a few weeks although fortunatly there was one from around a month or so ago so about 50 users were lost. Luckely no posts seem to have been deleted and I spend an hour or so earlier going through the db to assign all the posts back to the right users so everything appears to be back up and working (minus the resent members). Wish I'd though of moving the admincp before would have saved alot of hassle

I must say though, Harley, you did not get hacked, I hate to admit it...you have got to be on the lookout for this kind of stuff, as there's really no excuse for falling for something like this. Bob is an admin at your forums...he must visit often, right? If so, how could he have just "forgotten" his password? Sure, maybe it was stored as a cookie and he lost his cookies somehow...but highly unlikely. Second, how did this person contact you? Don't you talk to Bob on MSN/AIM or whichever from day to day...this person didn't hack into Bob's messenger, did he? Also, like Larry said...there's a reset password link for a reason. You could either tell him to use this or send a password reminder to his email. This can be done via the vB ACP, not sure about IPB. Anywho, you were not hacked by a long stretch...you just fell victim to a scam...and really a very simple one...moral of the story is to be more careful about this stuff in the future.
