[How to] setup cookies, correctly.

Most vBulletin forums I visit have the problem of not setting up their cookies correctly, meaning if you login from http://domain.com and visit http://www.domain.com or domain.com, then it'll show you not logged in.

It's a simple fix though:
  1. Login to vBulletin's admin panel
  2. Go to "vbulletin options" > "cookies and http header options"
  3. Scroll down to "cookie domain" and write: ".yourdomain.com" within the custom setting input - note this should already be in the suggestion dropdown box above.

No more annoying cookie problems... or atleast I think so.

This didn't work for me. Does this work on your forums. I thought the ".domain.com" was if you had your forum setup like this "forum.domain.com"

Same here.

From AdminCP help:

Quote:
This setting controls the domain scope of your forum cookies. If you have multiple cookies interacting on your site, then it may be necessary to restrict the scope of your forum cookies.

For example, leaving this setting blank will allow your forum cookies to operate on any domain on your site. If you have multiple domains parked on your site, then a forum cookie can be recorded for any of those domains depending on which domain is used to login to your forum.

You can use a value of ".yoursite.com" (no quotes, using your domain name) to allow your forum cookies to operate anywhere within that specific domain. That includes "yoursite.com", and "*.yoursite.com" (where * is any subdomain).

You can use a value of "subdomain.yoursite.com" (no quotes, using your domain and any subdomain) to allow your forum cookies to operate on that specific domain and subdomain.

I'm pretty sure it will work both ways. What bOo is saying, is that if you leave that setting for your cookies blank, a member can log into www.yourdomain.com but when they visit yourdomain.com, they are not logged in. Presumably, if you change this setting to .yourdomain.com, when a person logs into www.yourdomain.com, they are also logged into yourdomain.com, and vice-versa.
