Why not to get IPB

I have recently been looking into getting IPB and am curious why it is not a very popular forum software. Why doesn't anyone use IPB? Is it because there are not as many extensions/addons for it?

I think that IPB is excellent software, although the pricing is a little high and I guess people probably just pay the extra for vB. But there are plenty of addons and it's a great software.

Nowadays, feature for feature there's not much in it between IPB and vB. However vb has been in the paid/professional forum arena for a longer time and gained the bulk share of the "professional" market early on. IPB still has a way to go and an up hill battle to gain the same kind of reputation vb currently has the priviledge of enjoying. It will be a good while before the attitude of "all the good forums using vb therefor it must be superior" attitude is replaced with more logical and informed reasoning.

Not very popular? Sure, it may not be as widely used as vBulletin, but it certainly is pretty well-known. IPB is a very nice piece of forum software, and even though I prefer vB, I can't think of any reasons as to why you shouldn't go with IPB.

I love IPB been using it for over a year now. The only thing I dont like much about it now is they changed their licensing prices and the way they do it but it is definitely still a great piece of software.

I agree with what's been said. While I prefer vBulletin as a paid solution, IPB is still a great script and will give you many of the same features as vB. Personal preference is the only reason I choose vB.

It depends on your use, I have 2 forums - and for both I found out that IPB would be the best choise.
I think IPB is easier to skin, has better functions and is more user friendly.
IPB has alot of modules/comps - also 3 made by IPB. Blog, Gallery and Download manager - IPB has also made a link script they give out for free!

Many users have also uploadet alot of stuff, and there is a module manager who makes it very easy to control modules:

There aren't really any reasons why you shouldn't go for IPB! People just fork out a bit more cash to get vB but it is all up to you!

I personally believe IPB has more of a community feeling over it thanks to the members profile pages.

IPS has already closed the gap when they released IP.Board 2.2.

You also have to take into consideration that IP.Board is surprisingly popular among corporate companies. This is one of the reasons why IPS decided to raise their license prices and purchasing options. Since IP.Board has such a rich feature list (compared to vBulletin now) and since they offer endless possibilities to integrate IP.Board with other official IPS products like IP.Blog and IP.Converge, etc., they know people will still purchase their product.

And it is because of this customer loyalty that IP.Board eventually developed a fairly large fan base alongside its modification and skinning communities.

Check out Invisionize.com, InvisionModding.com, Dscripting.com, and IPSBeyond.com. These are the four main modding sites for IP.Board, with Invisionize being the biggest database.
