![]() ![]() | IPB is more expensive no matter how you look at it. Look at it this way you buy a VBulletin owned license it's $160 (without a bulk discount), then support is $30 per year. IPB standard which is the equivalent to a VBulletin owned license is $150, then support is $25 every six months. Also the standard license only comes with six months of support and upgrades, while VBulletin from the start comes with one year. IPB costs more to maintain than VBulletin. Also VBulletin has the leased license which at least is getting your foot in the door for paid forum scripts. IPB probably hurt themselves when they got rid of the yearly license also. |

| Forum Addict ![]() | good explanation, and the fact that vBulletin is better is a good reason too....

| Rookie | I used IPB for about 3 years and really liked it. But my forums moved to a network site and ended up needing to use their proprietary software. But I've recently gotten the itch to start up a new set of forums for a different subject. And of course was looking back at IPB since I was familiar with the admin side of it (up to 2.1 I think). But reading through here makes me 2nd guess restarting with IPB. I have always thought it was a great piece of software, but is the latest pricing scheme a deterrent? What exact feature(s) of vB would I miss out on IPB?

| Forum Addict ![]() | Im an IPB user, currently my forums are stuffing up. I just been brought up with it, starting off on Invisionfree, then to 2.0 and then 2.1 and now i got the 2.2 version. I don't know what the difference really is with vb and ipb so i can't really compare the two. |

| Apprentice | I also believe the number of user has declined a great deal. As compared to before, there are ver few boards that actively use IPB. |

![]() | Hmm that is weird. Because last time I checked more vBulletin users are converting to IPB. Especially now when IPB3 is getting closer and closer for every day that goes.

![]() | I chose IPB over vBulletin after I had used vBulletin for over a year. In my opinion, vBulletin copied the user profiles from IPB as they are similar how they work.
