Post Exchange Regrets?

Admin - If the wrong area please move or inapropiate please close/delete

PLEASE! Do not name user names or sites.

I am just curious have you ever regreted doing a post exchange with another user? I mean in the way of the quality of the posts or if there are misspelled words, etc.

Although I wouldn't think you would edit/delete the post or the member or would you? I have always wonder that. I know that I have a small niche forum so I have been afraid to "pull" the trigger.

Unfortunately this is probably the biggest problem with exchanges...I've fallen victim to the same thing also. There isn't much you can do about it, other than minimizing the exchange #, monitoring the posts of the person you exchange with, and screening the exchanger beforehand. What I mean by that is this...
  • Instead of say, exchanging 30 posts for 30 posts from the start, tell them you would like to exchange 10. Then, if you want to exchange more, you add another 10 onto that and so on. This way, if you get a spammer, at least you only receive 10 spam posts instead of 30
  • Monitoring the posts....*typically* when you set up an exchange, the other person will begin posting either instantly or shortly after (almost always the same day). Try to make it a habit of monitoring your forums shortly after you set up an exchange...this way if you notice the other person spamming or posting low quality posts, you can delete the posts and PM the member instantly before too many posts are made.
  • The best way, but the most difficult way, to prevent this problem is to "screen" your exchangers before saying the "ok". Ask for some examples of their posts or do a search for "all posts made by this member". This kind of stuff can very easily give you a good idea of what kind of person you are dealing with. This, however, will indeed be tough for a niche as small as yours...as it's already hard enough to find people to do it.
The aftermath...sounds to me like you've already fallen victim to this and it's too late to stop it while you can. In this case, I don't see how or what you would edit in the post itself. Typically when posts are edited, they are edited because they violate the guidelines in some way such as advertising, flaming, swearing, etc. Deleting the posts? I say that if you feel they dont contribute to your forums, why not? Go for it. You have already lost on the exchange it seems, there's not much you can do about that...but there is no reason you should let these low quality posts make your forums look trashy.

Most important of all, make a note, whether written or mental, of this person so you are sure not to make the same mistake in the future
