I just thought I would share this little gem. I love this thing. It is an image editor that is much better than paint and about as good as PaintShop Pro. Mind you it is no where near as sophisticated as Photoshop, but it does well for light editing. Best of all its free. The one downfall, atleast some may consider it a downfall... I do not, is that you must have .NET Framework version 2.0 installed to use it. Paint.NET

Is it a website? Is it a technology? Is it a data structure? Is it a protocol? Is it a squirrel? Is it user friendly?

The difference is that it is a framework that works with a ton of languages instead of a single proprietary scripting language. You can do both web and windows development in it. It is awesome in the fact that once you learn the core of it making the transition from web to windows and windows to web doesn't take a whole lot of work.

All versions of the framework are listed as vX.X.XXXX. The other place you can look is in your Add/Remove programs. All version should be listed there. If you don't have 2.0 you can easily install that by going to windows update and finding it in the option packages to install. I don't think they have upgraded it to a critical yet.

As a developer, I don't like .Net because it's the 'easy way out', leading to overly complicated solutions because the framework builds a one-size-fits-all scenario, and you cram your code in around it, no matter how much you weight. For light-duty tasks, the framework hangs from your shoulders, bogging you down, whereas for heavy-duty tasks, it's crushing your man-boobs and making you sweat. Sorry, that's a screwed up analogy, but it's the best I can come up with. As a user, I don't like .Net because it assumes I have something installed. I don't have the .Net framework on my MacBook Pro, and I don't have it in Debian or Ubuntu. Web pages are supposed to be fairly platform-agnostic, and .Net flies in the face of all that. Quote:
