Title: Veteran Join Date: Mar 2006 Posts: 519 Location: Richmond, VA ![]() ![]() Recent Blog: Buddhist Temple Built from Beer Bottles | I tried to get DirecTV, but I can't get a signal from my apartment building, well, at least from where the landlord would allow a dish to be placed. Once I buy a house I'm making the switch. I can't wait to have the NFL package! However, it would suck not to have a signal during a storm. That's when I want to watch TV the most. lol It was pouring here today. If I wasn't working, I'd be laying on the couch watching some bad daytime television or ordering from On Demand. To be real... I'd only get DirecTV for the NFL package. If DirecTV didn't have that exclusive deal with the NFL and Comcast had a competing package or NFL.com offered an online package like the MLB does, I'd stick with Comcast, but since they don't - once I get my chance, I'm making the switch.

My parents have been using it for 2-3 years now and have had no major complaints...This past year they've even been living in a mountain home and the signal only goes out when a bad storm comes through. I wouldn't be worried about the occasional cloud or overcast weather...our signal really only seems to be affected when a storm rolls through - most of the time rain is no problem unless it is heavy.

(Ours only goes of if, like i said above a transmitter dies, or is hit by electricity from a storm, which is not likely). the Above is written for TVs operating from signals which is Transmitter - Air - Receiver - Decoded - TV) there are digital packages which is the same but from orbiting satellites . and there is cable, which is direct from the tranmitting building but through cables, usually offers best picture in England.

You can get lots and lots of channels...to have it, you've got to put a satellite dish on the top of your roof...sometimes this means you'll need to take some trees down to get a clear shot of the sky (depending on how wooded your area is). The reason you'd lose signal during a storm is because heavy clouds are overhead...if the clouds are too heavy, your satellite dish won't be able to see the satellite floating around in outerspace.
