WTF FireFox?

So last night my laptop completely froze due to a pop-up so I decided to immediately shut it down (Yeah, i'm impatient with things). I just put it away last night. I checked it this morning and noticed my firefox browser just got completely emptied of almost everything. All my bookmarks were gone, adsense notifier was cleared, and homepage reset to FireFox Google Default..

..anyone know what happened? I think all my themes are gone too

I have had this problem, with everything resetting to default. But I never thought it was from a pop-up, merely a little bug?

I wonder if its a bad pop up.....

I have fixed it in an AIM session last night. As far as I could tell, it seemed to be corrupt config files.

If this happens to any of you, it's not difficult to fix.

The GUI Way:
Close Firefox
Go to C:\Documents and Settings\{whichever folder is you}
Manually add the string "\Application Data" to the end of the address bar (it's a hidden folder)
Open the folder "Mozilla", click the folder "Firefox" once, hit F2, rename to old_Firefox
Repeat the last two steps using "\Local Settings\Application Data"

The Command Line Way:
click Start, click Run, type cmd, hit Enter
And type the following commands in exactly as they appear:
cd Application Data\Mozilla
ren Firefox old_Firefox
cd ..\..\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla
ren Firefox old_Firefox
exit

This will force Firefox to rebuild a (non-broken) configuration for your user account. You'll have to put your settings and stuff in again.

Have a look in:

C:\Documents and Settings\{you}\Application Data\Mozilla\old_Firefox\Profiles\????????.default \Bookmarks.html

(Open it in Firefox and all your bookmarks are right there.)

I sometimes get this problem, and I just reinstall my extensions, etc.

But I don't lose bookmarks at all.
Why? Because I'm using Google Browser Sync. It's perfect if you like to reformat your computer regularly and/or use multiple computers at home.
