How reliable and worthy is being a website developer as a career?
I am at the stage of my life where I should decide what I want to do,and I have chosen the path I want to do.

So, you web developers out there, how much of a money maker is website development?

It can put you on the streets or it can put you in a mansion...It's a matter of who you are, how motivated you are, how innovative/forward thinking you are, etc...and yes, for some, all you have to do is be in the right place at the right time.

I don't know what to tell you...It's possible to make a LOT of money doing this (ie: Lee Dodd here at AF), but not everybody can do it and be successful.

Depends on exactly what you mean by website development. There are two distinct sides of website development. There is the graphic design side of the house and the actual programming side. I know ppl on both. I am on the programming side myself. I know ppl that have been very prosperous on both sides of the line and ppl that have struggled. Graphics if you are good at them tend to be a decent living if you can make a name for yourself or get on with an marketing/design type company. Programming can make you any where from a modest income to a substantial income depending on how dedicated you are to it. Being a programmer in the web environment means that you have to be willing to constantly learn and teach yourself new technologies. If you aren't well versed it is hard to make a living. To make true money as a developer you either have to get on with a decent size company or do it as a freelance consultant. I know several freelancers that are killing right now. Myself I am a consultant with a small sized consulting firm. I make modest money, I definitely can't turn my nose at what they are paying me to do something that I love doing. I hope that helps some.
