Anyone fancy listening to a few tunes...:)

Hey everyone,

Apart from being a long standing brass musician, it is also very sad that I am a life-long synthesiser lover. Ever since as far back as I can remember - I have wanted a synthesiser. I remember having loads of pictures/posters on my bedroom walls of synths, rock bands and rock groups etc... each with their keyboards proudly on display. I remember having posters of Genesis in concert, Rick Wakeman (who I have subsequently met and will be interviewing again soon), Yes and Jon Anderson etc... all adoourning my walls. One day my Mum was in my room and asked me about these posters, I said to her... "I will have one of those synths sometime Mum...!" to which she laffed and said sure John - as Mums do eh!

Well, a few years ago my Mum sadly passed away and left me a small sum of money. It didn't take me very long at all to realise what Mum would have wanted me to spend some of that money on. So... I did it... aye, I went out and bought myself a full blown, full featured all singining, all dancing synthesiser. Thing is... I am not a keyboard player and there were more buttons on that synth than you find in a Cadbury's chocolate packet heheheheheh...

So.. I started to learn about chords and progressions, synth technique and sound synthesis etc... and over the last two or so years have managed to record myself a few amateurish tracks - mainly comprising ambient, easy listening, new-age type stuff.

Here's a few of the tracks I have composed, played and recorded... have a laff and let me know what you think yeah...

They are all available here.. www.mrjohn.co.uk/music
  • electric - Electric Guitar feature ala Steve Hackett style
  • ambient - smooth short demo - sort of drift away music
  • heather - one I wrote for my daughter when she was 6 yrs old. She asked me to create a piece she could play on her CD player for bedtime, but she also wanted drums featured in it as well... weird eh. So.. a zen type sleepy one ensued...
  • dark - a short experiment with dark synth sounds... creepy... but nice
  • lazy - hmmmm, not my best, but I play both synth and cornet on it (not at same time though!!!)
  • seven8 - very short clip of something (in 7/8 time sig) I am working on at present
I'd be delighted to read what people think... cheers all.

I like ambient and lazy. It just makes me want to light up a cigar and sit back.

Seven8 has lots of potential to be a background music for a short home video clip. I look forward to hear the finished product.

Great clips!

Ambient was seriously chilling-out music..... very nice!!
When Heather started to play, Shannon came over and declared "that's a nice song!"
I love the background noises in Dark - reminds me of the Predator ROFL - this would be a beautiful piece to meditate to
Electric is another soothing piece as is lazy.

The only anomaly is seven8 lol not one to kick back and chill out too... but Erin loved it and bounced around the room dancing <grin>

Bloody good stuff, John!!!!
