| Title: Veteran Join Date: Sep 2005 Posts: 841 ![]() | Anyone else like me have kids growing up too fast!!!! Hey All Just a total chit-chat thread I thought I'd start. My son - of whom I am very, very proud (am proud of both of my kids really) - is an amazing 15 yrs old today. I simply cannot believe where all the time has gone. Apologies to those who are not yet of children, but I remember vividly cutting his cord, I remember vividly his first crawl, his first steps, his first "Dada"... I remember taking him to footie on a Sunday, I remember his first days at school, at TaeKwondo, I remember him laffing his socks off when a giant killer crab popped out from under a rock I was sat on with him and nearly bit my bum, I remember the picture on his face when I told him he had a sister. I remeber his first golf set, his latest golf club (which cost more than the first set!!!), I remember everything so clearly. Both of their first days at school, the ups and downs of being a parent... but...Where on earth has the time gone...? Both of my kids are growing up so fast it is unreal. Has time accelerated like this for any other BB'er?

I still remember Saturdays when my oldest was a baby and my wife worked, it was my time with her and I used to snuggle her in my arms and whisper all my hopes for her in her ear and dance with her whilst listening to my favorite music. Man what I wouldn't give to have those days back again!!

I outgrew high school before I got there, and as far as I'm concerned, its little more than a mandatory waste of time that I need to complete before I can get into Harvard. Most kids would rather end this whole teenage BS and move on.

There will be a time in your life when you'll yearn for the days your in so enjoy them as much as you can (yes, I know you've heard that before, but it really is true )

Seems like every year is just going by faster and faster as my daughter gets older. I don't even wanna think about it when she is old enough to start taking interests in boys.

Nowadays, she´s taller than me, and I´m not a short person. It´s gonna be hard when your daughter becomes a teenager, especially when she starts smoking and dating guys without telling you anything because they know if they do that, you´re gonna bore them to death with lame speeches. It´s hard when you see guys that are older than me (I´m 21) hitting on her trying to convice her to quit her virginity. Now imagine when she came to me and said "don´t tell mom, but I make out with your friend...you know the one who is 20 year-old..". I was angry, very angry that my friend dated her, but since it was one 2-3 days make out I didn´t to a thing, because if I did, she probably would never speak to me about guys and all. At that time, her friends group is the most wonderful thing in the world, and you, the parents, are gonna be the enemy #1. Get ready for those long nights without sleeping, because you just saw an ambulance going to the place where your daughter is. I know you parents love your kids, but if you are constantly choke with punishments and speeches, they won´t talk to you. Mommys have luck, because the daughters always talk to them, but daddys are gonna suffer a lot. My sister smokes over a year, and my dad and grandpa are the only ones that don´t know about that. The worst part is she only started that awful habit because she saw her (girl) friends doing it and thought it was cool. It is basically like this: if you want to be with us, you must smoke to prove you are cool, otherwise go away. Bottom line: know the friends of your daughter. In portuguese there is a saying: "Diz-me com que andas e eu dir-te-ei quem és". In english it means "Tell me the kind of people you hang out with, and I´ll tell you the kind of person you are." She now has another addiction: MSN. I can see if she is feeling sad, have a new boyfriend, or a problem, just by reading her nick. And if I suspect she is hiding something that may harm her I´ll just read the chat logs.
