I just want to know what everyone else thinks of them, there are the big ones like Yahoo, MSN and AIM, and then there are the private ones too, I like the private ones best because you can choose who you want in the room and who not, but the public ones really annoy me.

I've only been on them maybe three times, each time I was loaded with internet slang which I painstakingly tried to decipher while I was being shouted at to turn on my webcam.

Even after I gave up and logged off I was plagued with offline messages for the next week telling me to send some such nonsense to 10 or more of my friends to experience some such miracle or another... bah!

I never use real chatrooms, just ones that forums I like have installed. I use IM clients, but only for quick business discussion. I don't even maintain a buddy list on it.

In my experience there are people that love chatrooms and those that love forums, i belong to the latter for many reasons, the main ones being that more thought goes into posting on a forum which automatically raises the level of discussion from the chatroom....

I used to use the chatrooms on AOL many many moons ago, some of them are okay, depends on the crowd that frequents them. But since leaving AOL about 6 years ago, I never go into chatrooms now.. not even ones connected to forums... they're just full of kids writing that crappy txt speak they use and I can't curb the instinct to correct their spelling, grammar and punctuation

I'm like Az. I used to use chatrooms many moons ago but gave because I couldn't stand the txt msg language that was used. There was always the instinct to tell people to use proper English instead of just shortened versions. I also used to use Yahoo's chatrooms which, over the past few years have become more and more complicated to get into, requiring more and more downloads to use them. So eventually, about 4 years ago, I quit using chat rooms and switched over to using IM clients. Now I can pick and choose who I talk to and when I talk to them. So no, I'm not a fan of chat rooms anymore. Interesting when I first started using the internet but uickly lost their appeal.

Well i prefer fourms way more...than chatrooms...they have all sorts of freaks on them and u dont get messages that flood the screen...

Well I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who doesn't frequent them lol, I'm a forum goer too, I kind of look at chatrooms as another type of spam, nothing good ever comes of them.
I'll use a private one on some of my forums but for the most part I stay away from them.

I don't know that I agree, especially if the chats are well moderated. THC has run some great ones with horror actors in the past. And the one's they have every Friday to accompany their Midnight stream is quite fun.

THC, the horror community? or is that another site your talking about?
I don't get into many stream chats because of my low internet speed, then again that may be the problem with alot of things on this end.
