Time to change my PC

The current PC i use was purchased 3yrs back and started giving me trouble its lack memory, the hardisk 40GB is almost used and camparing the performance of todays PC ots seems very old machine...

so i though of purchasing a new one and enquired a dealer about it and this is what he has given me which he says will be best for my requirements:

IBM Lenova 82191

Microprocessor: Intel P4 6303.0Ghz HT
Cache Memory: 2MB
Chipset: Intel 915G
Memory: 1GB DDR2
Hard drive: 80GB Hdd
Optical Drive: CDROM
Video Graphics: Integrated Intel extreme Gfx
Network card: Integrated 10/100
Audio: Integrated audio
Keyboard/mouse: Windows 104keyboard / Mouse
I/O interfaces: 4x USB 2.0 ports Rear, 1x serial port x 1 parrllel port
operating system: DOS
Monitor: 19'" digial color

I am not experianced on tech side, what i expect is i need to install heavy softwares like photoshop7 & Css2, Coral draw, flash designing software, dreamweaver + lot of them to enhance my designing skills...

so any suggestion will be good for me to decide if this will suit my needs...

Ok, first, I would recommend other brand. IBM tends to be way overpriced in my experience. If you tell me what other brands you can get over there I can give you a better assesment.

The CPU description has a typo, should be Intel P4 630... at 3.0GHz.

I tend to generally dislike integrated video/audio solutions since most of the work ends up being passed on to the processor, and you have to share memory bandwidth with video processing. Even low-end graphics cards will perform ages better than integrated solutions. Integrated audio could be fine. But integrated video is always for me a big no-no.

You need a bigger hard drive for your needs. 120GB at minimum. Some sort of external storage too. My 1GB usb drive is vital, if it is out of budget then optical storage should be standard by now, I'm surprised your config doesn't include some sort of it. Don't take anything less than CD-RW included. DVD-RW it's quite accesible this side of the pond but again I'm not sure if it fits your budget.

What's with the OS?... DOS?... so you have to shell extra money for windows or you already have a copy? Most brand PC's have a OEM copy of windows XP so this seems quite odd.

19 inches monitors are good... as long as they are LG flatrons or sony trinitrons . If they are not, then make sure that at high resolutions they have a refresh rate of 75hz or more, since low refresh rates are the most common cause of stressing your vision when you work on them for long time periods. LCD monitors are a nice investment for your eyes too, if you can afford it, then by all means do. 17" LCD monitors are roughly equivalent to 19" inch CRT's.

If you can get a system with more USB ports, 6 minimum, at least two of them frontal, would be much better in the long run.

I agree with everything Hell said above.... this isn't sufficient.... and IBM's are indeed overpriced.

Yes, I need to upgrade as well. Mine is doing fine, but its on the old side (its a 2 ghz laptop).

Anyways, as to OS is Hell mentioned, might I suggest installing FreeBSD? As the name suggests, its free. And since its a Unix distro, its quite good.

Ok, try to check the price for a pc with following config, I hope is within budget

HP a1330e series
AMD Athlon(TM) 64 3700+ (2.2GHz / 1MB L2 cache)
2GB DDR-400MHz dual channel SDRAM (2x1GB)
160GB 7200 rpm SATA Hard Drive
Double Layer 16X max. DVD +/-R/RW drive
9-in-1 memory card reader, 3 USB 2.0, 1 IEEE 1394
NVIDIA GeForce 6200se
HP Multimedia Keyboard, HP Optical Mouse

Everything else could stay standard...

Better buy the parts and put it together yourself (or a friend if you don't know how).
I'm against all those brands like IBm, HP, ...
The prices are indeed way to high for what they offer.
