| Title: Forum Enthusiast Join Date: Aug 2005 Posts: 2,521 Location: England ![]() | An interesting article on their stats Myspace Growing @ Master rate February 21st, 2006 source: http://chronotron.wordpress.com/2006...g-master-rate/ Inspite of all the recent contraversies, Myspace continues to be the net’s hottest Social Networking and Blogging site and it’s growing at an enormous rate, faster than what we have all imagined. Alexa says that Myspace is the 6th largest English site in the world, something that not even the makers would have imagined surpassed by only the dons, Yahoo, Google, MSN, etc. Firstly somewhere around December, the blog Herald reported that Myspace has 40 million users approximately, which was rumoured to be it’s userbase in September itself. On January 19th, the BH again gave an estimate that Myspace has 45 Million users which was immediately crused by USA Today’s claim that Myspace had 47 Million. Internet News estimated 48 million on the 3rd of this month. On Febraury 10th, Mercury News showed a staggering figure of 54 million something that no one had even imagined, just when we thought that Myspace was losing it. Reuters winds it up yesterday by saying that Myspace has 56 million blogs! All these indicate just one thing, Myspace is growing at an enormous rate of around atleast 40,000+ users perday (mind you, this is the bare minimum) and maybe even 300,000 on a good sunday. However, you may have noticed one thing, all the above links are not direct Myspace statistics but instead news items about Myspace contraversies. Perhaps, these contraversies have given Myspace huge amoung of publicity which has triggered this growth in it’s growth rate. A well known fact is that most teens don’t prefer to blog on Blogger or Wordpress and they like services like Hi5 better. So, when something gives them Hi5+Friendster+Blogger together along with loads of other good facilities, they jump upon the chance. And, If I register, there is no doubt that I will get 5 of my friends to. So start multiplying 1×5x5×5x5×5…… So, myspace is growing and growing and it’s becoming a giant for sure. Ofcourse Google’s 5,880,000 indexed pages are helping too!

| Title: Groupie Join Date: Apr 2006 Posts: 41 ![]() | Well, my forum has been loosing members, but that's a different story, nothing to do with myspace... lol, that's funny and sad at the same time. My forum is different though it focuses on Stargate, Stargate SG-1, and Stargate: Atlantis a science fiction movie, and it's two television show offspring, I think that effects the myspace thing, I don't know how much myspace apeals to the average sci-fi fan, but I think many of them do prefer forums, allthough, there are a lot that I haven't met. Refering to the comment above, that Myspace is for people who don't know much about the internet, that could be very true, often times people make the distinction between sci-fi fans and nerds as very small, or non-existant, I know there are some non-nerd-science-fiction fans out there, I think many, do have a greater than average knowledge of the internet, which could explain the attention to forums. I think Myspace will have an effect on forums, but only forums with certain focuses. | ||||
