Firefox Users Won't Be Buying On Windows Live Shopping

Microsoft Corp. has released in beta this week its Windows Live Shopping site, but Firefox users will have to switch to Internet Explorer if they want to look for bargains.

A visitor trying to access the new site with Firefox on Wednesday found his browser directed to a page that said, "We're sorry. Windows Live Shopping Beta does not yet support Firefox. We're working to correct this as soon as possible."

The page includes a link to MSN Shopping, which is Firefox friendly.

Microsoft officials were not immediately available for comment.

Firefox competes with Microsoft's Internet Explorer, which dominates the Web browser market. But Firefox, an open-source browser developed by the Mozilla Corp. has managed to grab more than a 10 percent share, according to some Web metrics firms, mostly at the expense of IE.

Windows Live Shopping boasts 40 million items from thousands of stores. Like a lot of other similar sites, it offers comparison-shopping, product reviews and the ability to share links to items via email. One standout feature, however, is the ability to drag and drop product pictures into a shopping list, which can also be shared with others. The same drag and drop feature can be used to move products into an area to compare features and prices.
