Cool Looking to buy a laptop

Hi there everyone,

I'm thinking of getting a laptop.

I've found a company in the UK which ships them out without Windows [I will be installing Linux].

The two laptops I like [and can afford] are:
The Maverick 3000, on http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/nbrange.html?MAV
Or the Maxfire 3000, on http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/nbrange.html?MXF.

I can also afford laptops higher on the list than the two ranges I've mentioned [ list at http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/nbrange.html?MXF ]

Also, if you know of any UK based companies that sell laptops, operating system free, for under around ₤530, please let me know in this thread.

Woo!

There isn't really that big of a difference between the 2 besides the processors really. And the maverick 3000 has a bigger hard drive. I don't know a whole lot about AMD but I would probably go with the maverick 3000 because of the bigger hard drive, but it depends on what you want to use this for. If it's just like internet and word processing then that one should be fine.

You probably already know this, but I want to point it out just in case. Make sure you research the equipment and it's willingness to work with linux. I currently have a laptop and it doesn't like linux too much. I do believe it has to do with ACPI not supporting the step processing on my CPU very well if at all, thus causing it to run full speed all the time. That would be fine if laptops were equipped properly to handle the heat that a cpu generates when running full speed all the time and the battery consumption it causes. Thus I had some overheating issues and had to go back to windows.

Thanks, but I am looking for a firm that sells them without an operating system, and I certainly won't be buying Dell [unless it happened to be Bonfire Night ]

Also, I prefer to buy stuff that isn't a popular brand - as with most modern eletronics, notebooks are usually all the same with a different badge.
