I'm looking for suggestions to improve on my forums and I do have a ton of ideas in my mind that I haven't got time to implement, like smilies and more forums (so don't bother counting those). I would also appreciate some suggestions as to how I could further promote the forums and bring more members.

  • I love this design! Or should I say I love the potential you have in this design. The colours are great and the green as a rich contrast to the muted greys of the basic style. There needs to be some changes though. I'd try and work this style into a fluid rather than fixed style. I'm vieing the forum in widescreen and even with this resolution the numerous sub-forums you feature have stretched the style out of proportion making it look a little odd. Are you using the Cyb - Sub-Forum Manager? It looks like you are. If you insist on using all these subforums (I'll come to this later) I'd rearrange them into two rather than three columns to bring the style back into alignment.
  • You have a favicon too, which is always a nice touch and your ties in well with the style too. Well done.
  • The icons at the bottom of the forum in the What's Going On? Box feature a bio-hazard symbol. I know it's a small thing, but these don't really 'fit' with the TV theme. Maybe you could change them. Whilst you're at it, the status icons for new posts/no new posts are pretty much identical. It'd be worthwhile changing these.
  • RECOMMENDATIONS:
  • Change your subforums into two columns rather than three to bring the style into alignment.
  • Amend the What's Going On? Icons to remove the hazard symbol.
  • Amend the status icons to make the a little more different between new posts and no new posts.

  • It looks pretty full of stuff to do. Image host is displayed on the navbar, journals are there too. These are both great draws for members. I'm not sure what the 'tags' option is though, because it gave me a database error.
  • Youmake good use of stats on the frontpage and WHEN (not if) your forum gets busier this will be a useful tool for you to monitor and also a good way of showing off just how busy, active and interesting your forum is. Good choice.
  • You have VBSEO. As you're filling a niche here, SEO can only be a good thing. It looks like you've invested both time and money in this venture and I wish you well.
  • The FAQ is an often overlooked feature of vBulletin. My personal choice is to remove the FAQ or to really flesh it out and make it a central part of your community. If I had questions I needed answering about YOUR community and not the forum software, I'd check the FAQ. I'd be dissapointed. There is no content.
  • You're using the "Total members that have visited the forum today" hack from the org. I suggest you disable it, or leave it viewable just to you for now. As the forum is not busy, seeing "Total members that have visited the forum today: ZERO" is a bad thing. It's off putting.
  • RECOMMENDATIONS:
  • FAQ: Use it or lose it.
  • Hide the members who visited today box until you have a decent number of members visiting each day.

  • The first thing I noticed when looking at this section is that there has been no activity in a week. There are no visitors to list at this moment and things look barren from an activity point of view. As a forum owner it is your responsibility to ensure your forum is active. People will not join if it is empty and you need to be throwing up at least ten new threads each day. You have a wide range of subject to discuss. There should be no shortage of subjects you can use. You may also like to consider paid posting to make things a little busier.
  • I can see a link to the FAQ, but it doesn't tell me much, and you have enabled forum leaders and contact us features. These are useful features for guests.
  • No welcome Header. Not even the default vBulletin one. I know your forum is about TV, but a Welcome Header would be a quick way for you to tell me what else I can do on your forum and give me a reason to join.
  • The homepage is too busy. Yes, it offers choice, but the wide range of sub-fora means I don't knwo where to start. Also, I can see your "private forum for registered users to share/download episodes" whilst viewing as a Guest and you have a forum labelled as Useless Spam. It's off putting for a guest to feel that you may judge his/her posts as useless spam.
  • There are no rules or guidelines that I can find. How do not know what is or is not acceptable on your forum. Can I swear? I clicked register hoping you may have a list of rules at sign up, but nothing.
  • RECOMMENDATIONS:
  • Make more threads and posts. There is a distinct lack of activity.
  • Tell us about you in the FAQ
  • Add welcome headers. People want to feel welcome.
  • Hide private forums and rename the Useless Spam forum.
  • Display rules/guidelines.

  • The first thing that hit me what I went to the forum home page was the sheer number of subforums. Do you really need this many? You have close to 150 subforums and just over 160 threads. This tells me that there are a huge number of empty forums here. You'd be better off having one forum per Network, or per genre (if you feel like doing it a different way).
  • TV Networks are a good way to organise the forum is you're from the US. Internationally, however, you will be putting people off. I've never heard of CW or CBS even though I may know some of the shows. If you want to remain US only then stick with the networks. If you want to attract a multinational audience, consider genre or TV show. But please, remove some of these empty subforums!! It DOES LOOK ORGANISED, but perhaps too organised, if you get my meaning.
  • RECOMMENDATIONS:
  • Remove all the program specific fora you have.
  • Go either network (US) or genre (international) in your set up.
