The skin used. Aside putting the name of the site in the header there are no changes. It's a nice skin indeed but in order to get a good review on the design one needs to really mod that skin. Another header, some colours changed, why not .. rethink the layout?

It does look nice, but it's a stock theme. The merit goes to the designers (love their themes by the way, good choice).

I see some image hack and something with articles. I assume these are the modifications. Too bad I cannot see the articles .. doesn't let me see them unless I am logged in

It's a good start, there are many nice hacks for VB, you'll love some of them

Aside that thing with not letting me see articles unless I am logged in, the forums are nice and welcoming. And please change the FAQ text in the header in index and place your own nice welcoming message. These 2 prevented the stars from being 5 in this section.

Good job overall at making it friendly

I see all kinds of announcements, but not a specific rules page. Try the rules page hack and put down your guidelines. They'll be quite handy in the future. Not too many staff members (not needed since it's a young community).

Good work on this section too. I would have something to comment though .. put the clickable part of the header in the left .. I kept on clicking on the site name and then recalled I need to click on the right

Other than that it's a nice start. I wish you all the best with this venture. May you have many many members and hope in few months you'll get a unique skin

As mentioned in an earlier review, definitely consider getting a custom skin made. The one you are using now, which is put out by ForumTemplates.com, is a bit...phony, IMO. For example, in the header, to the right of, "AnimalLovers.org.uk", there's a little sign graphic that says, "Forumix @ ForumTemplates.com". This is really not helping to promote the forum, but instead, it's promoting the organization that designed the skin.

If you do decide to stick with this skin, however, a few changes that could be made are:
  • The 4 links at the very bottom of the page (below the footer) look out of place, and also make the page uneccessarily long. Try placing them side-by-side, or in a different area of the index page.
  • Remove the Forumix sign thats located to the right in the header (if possible, and if you are allowed to). That, IMO, looks completely ridiculous.
  • Create some custom general forum icons (New Posts, No New Posts, etc), or have some made.
  • Attempt to change and/or modify the color scheme (again, IF you can and IF you are allowed to do so). Right now, it's pretty...interesting.

It appears that you have the vB Articles modification installed, and the vB Image Host modification installed. If possible, I think you should change the name of the link in the navigation area to, "Photo Gallery", as opposed to the current name, "VB Image Host". IMO, this will make it much more personalized, and more user-friendly.

Despite the skin being used, it's actually fairly friendly. If you do decide to stick with this skin, making some of the changes I mentioned above would greatly improve the guest friendliness of this forum. However, in my honest opinion, the only way to DRASTICALLY improve the friendliness of the forum would be to get a new skin. IMO, the current color scheme is in need of some improvement, and I'm really not sure if it can be fixed up.

Maybe I missed them, but I did not find any rules. Rules are a must at every discussion forum, simply because they will help keep the members, and the forum, in order. However, if you do happen to have a set of rules, please place them in a visible area, because right now, I cannot find them. As for staff members, it looks like you have plenty. I will say, though, that having three administrators is a little bit much for this stage in the forum. Yes, you have a decent amount of posts, but three administrators is quite a few. I'm not telling you to demote them, but just keep what I said in mind.

Organization and Navigation

Category Comments:
Organization-wise, it could use some work. For example, instead of having the "Announcements" forum in the "General" category, create a new category called, "Forum Information", and place the "Announcements" forum under that category. Also, be sure to place this category above "General". Other than that, it doesn't look like any major improvements need to be made.

Navigation-wise, it looks pretty good. The only few things I would change are re-naming the image host link, and re-placing the links at the bottom of the page, below the footer.
