Blue Collar Comedy fans

I would be interested in hearing your opinions regarding http://www.bluecollarfans.com

My wife came up with the idea for this forum and we are currently discussing ways we could beef it up a bit. If y'all have any thoughts, please share!

I think it'd be cool to have more images and what not that are specific to comedians (whoever is in that group) ....Maybe combine the logo text and the image you already have? A favicon and some new forum icons (for each forum on the index) would be nice also.

What about the blue space right before the forums start? Is there any reason that is there?

You should go through there and create a bunch of new threads...Right now it's going to be hard for new members to work up motivation to post in the forums since there isn't a whole lot in there to talk about. How old are the forums? If they are brand new, I can understand that you haven't gotten around to a lot of posting yet...

I'm not completely sure what you're referring to there but I suspect you have some kind of ad blocker set to block the Yahoo ads that appear between the header and the forum categories. That is the only way I can think of that you would be seeing excessive blue space on that skin.

It was launched in the middle of January. I think yesterday would have been the 1 month anniversary.

I've been working more on getting some links to the forum, thus far, and plan to focus more on creating new topics very soon.

Thanks, Ryan. Your input was a big help!

Ah, I'm not sure about the blue space...I can see the ads now, who knows. I would try to even out the spacing at the top and the bottom of those ads though. Either more space on the top or less space on the bottom. Really a miniscule thing, just something I noticed now that I can see the ads

Ahh, I probably know what happened. Yahoo doesn't have public service ads like Google so if it doesn't have ads to place on the site, you end up with a blank space.

I am a member there, and i do enjoy it, just not a lot to post on ATM.
here is something i just wanted to point out.

  • 1.) Banner
  • 2.) Buttons
  • 3.) new and old posts
  • 4.) Images at the bottom

1.) The banner could use a little work. but nothing that has to be done right now.

2.) those buttons (EG Home, Help, Search...) do not look like that would go onto a forum like that. Mabe change them into something more "blue collar" like

3.) The icons that temm you if there is a new post or not... thay are stock, I really think you should change them...

4.) The images at the bottom, thay do not go with the theme at all IMO

Over All you ahve a great site, Keep up the great work

Are you referring to the "micro banner" ads that are lined up across the footer?

Oh, okay... All of the graphics you are talking about came with the skin that I chose (it isn't custom) but I'm sure later, when I'm not more concerned about posting and promoting, I'll be creating some icons to replace the ones that came with it.

In My Humble Opinion...

You shouldn't concentrate 100% on promoting a board that has a default skin, nor one with a small ratio of topics per forum. (eg: 3 Categorys / 11 Forums / 30 Topics / 56 Posts)
If you were to do some math, you would see that there are:
  • 1.8 posts per topic,
  • 2.7 topics per forum
  • 5 posts per forum

I mean, what are your guests going to do once you 'get' them to come by?

I think you know that you have to balance your time between advertising and adding content to your board. One way to make it seem like there's more content is by shrinking the number of forums for right now. (only expand when needed)

I don't know if I'm making any sence.. it's 2 am here. ;-)
